Course Numbering


Common Course Numbering — The Common Course Numbering (CCN) System is a state-mandated initiative (AB 1111) aimed at simplifying student transfer and ensuring uniformity in course numbers across California Community Colleges.  In compliance with AB 1111, several CSU- and UC-transferable courses have been updated with revised CCN prefixes, numbers, and titles. Courses identified as common contain a “C” in their catalog numbers, and some subject area prefixes have changed to align with statewide standards (e.g., ENGL 1B is now ENGL C1002). Below are the courses included in Phase I and Phase II:

Transfer Credit — In accordance with Executive Order No. 167 issued by the Chancellor of the California State University on January 26, 1973, courses numbered 1 through 69, recommended by the faculty of San Joaquin Delta College, and designated as baccalaureate in nature shall be accepted by any campus of the California State University (CSU). Those courses are indicated by the initials “CSU” at the end of the course description. Courses that are transferable to the University of California (UC) are indicated by the initials “UC” at the end of the course description. All CCN courses are CSU and UC transferable. Courses that are deemed transferable to the Californina State University and the University of California will also be accepted by the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). 

Associate Degree Credit Courses — CCN courses and all courses numbered 1 through 69 may be applied toward the associate degree. Courses numbered 70 through 99 may also be applied toward the associate degree if included in a certificate or degree program.

Non-Degree Credit Courses — Some courses numbered 70 through 99 may not be applied toward the associate degree, and those courses are indicated as such in the course description.

Non-Credit Courses — Courses numbered 9000-9999 are noncredit, not degree applicable, and do not transfer.
