MCOM 4 Mass Media and Critical Thinking Units: 3 This course is designed to introduce critical thinking and reasoning skills useful to interpreting and analyzing news, entertainment and advertising in mass media. Emphasis will be placed on assessing media message content through examination of fallacies, obstacles, and evaluation of beliefs by rational standards. The course focuses on analysis of legacy, digital, and social media as it examines the impact of information and disinformation on message delivery and spread. Analysis of ethical and legal issues will also be discussed in relation to media literacy. (HBCU, UC, CSU)
