RAD 10 Introduction to Radiography Units: 3.5 Prerequisites: BIOL 31 Human Anatomy , BIOL 32 Human Physiology , H S 36 Medical Terminology and Speech , ENG 1A Reading and Composition or ENG 2A Reading and Composition with Support , PSYCH 1 Introduction to Psychology , CS 11 Fundamentals of Computer Science or CSA 20 Computer Information Systems Applications , and successful completion of Intermediate Algebra or appropriate placement as determined by the college’s multiple measures assessment process . Limitations on Enrollment: Admission to the Radiologic Technology Program. Finger printing & Criminal Record Clearance. This course is designed to provide an overview of the field of Radiologic Technology. Emphasis is placed on methods of promoting optimal patient care and the importance of developing a professional and caring attitude. Ethics and professional organizations are covered. Factors required for X-ray production are discussed including detailed instruction of the beneficial and destructive potentials of ionizing radiation. Safe radiation protection procedures for self, patients, and hospital personnel are discussed. The course includes body mechanics, infection control, and fundamentals of venipuncture and medical computer systems. (CSU)
