AJ 30 Critical Issues in the Justice System Units: 3 Advisories: AJ 21 Criminal Justice in Society with a grade of “C” or better. This course focuses on critical issues in the criminal justice system. It is designed to bring professional practitioners and qualified experts into the classroom to interact with students. This course provides a pathway through the complex hiring process; students will learn job search techniques, resume preparation, interviewing skills, and background checks proficiency. The intent of the course is to provide an arena for the student to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills toward critical issues in the justice system. The primary critical issue for this course is the crisis public safety/law enforcement agencies are experiencing in the recruitment and retention of employees. Lesser topics include community policing, the courts, decriminalization of drugs, plea bargaining, gangs profiling, terrorism, and domestic violence. (HBCU, CSU)
