MATH 10 Introduction to Contemporary Mathematics Units: 3 Prerequisites: Successful completion of Intermediate Algebra or appropriate placement as determined by the multiple measures assessment process . This course presents a selection of mathematical topics that are not algebraic in nature. The aspects of mathematics which are easily accessible and easy to understand for an average person, and yet have fundamental applications in many areas of life, are presented. It is intended for the broad population of students, especially those who may suffer from mathematics anxiety. Those students will be challenged to appreciate mathematics rather than fear it. This course is not part of the STEM sequence. It covers topics from the following areas of mathematics: personal finance; voting methods; apportionment of public funds; symmetry in mathematics, science, and arts; graph theory; game theory; systems of numeration; set theory; and logic. Time permitting, a few other topics may be covered. (CSU)
