GEOL 1A Physical Geology w/Lab Units: 4 Hours: 54 hours LEC; 54 hours LAB Grade Options: Letter Grade Only; No Incomplete General Education: Delta Area 2; CSU Area B1 & B3; IGETC Area 5A Term Typically Offered: Every fall term Advisories: Successful completion of Beginning Algebra or appropriate placement as determined by the college’s multiple measures assessment process and ENGL C1000 or ENGL C1000E with a grade of “C” or better. This course is an introduction to the principles of geology with emphasis on Earth processes. This course focuses on the internal structure and origin of the Earth and the processes that change and shape it. The laboratory component focuses on the identification of rocks and minerals, topographic and geologic map exercises demonstrating the work of water, wind, ice and gravity and effects of tectonic activity. Field trip(s) may be required. This course is designed for science majors. (HBCU, UC, CSU, C-ID GEOL 101)
