CHEM 12A Organic Chemistry Units: 5 Hours: 54 hours LEC; 108 hours LAB Grade Options: Letter Grade General Education: Delta Area 5; Cal-GETC Area 5A Term Typically Offered: Every fall term Prerequisites: CHEM 1B General Chemistry with a grade of “C” or better. This course is designed as a technical and experimental introduction to Organic Chemistry for the student intending to major in premedicine, predental, pharmacy, chemistry, biology, and chemical engineering. Each of these requires a rigorous understanding of the fundamental principles of organic chemistry, including the nomenclature, reactions and reaction mechanisms of both aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons plus those of functional group compounds.(UC, CSU, HBCU, C-ID CHEM 150, CHEM 12A + 12B = C-ID CHEM 160S)
