BIOT 10 Introduction to Biotechnology in Agriculture Units: 4 Hours: 54 hours LEC; 54 hours LAB Grade Options: Letter Grade or Inc. Advisories: ASCI 10 or PLANT 10 with a minimum grade of “C”. In this introductory course in biotechnology, students will embark on an exciting journey into the world of life mechanics. They will explore the concept of using living systems and organisms to create useful tools for the planet and its people. Through engaging lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, and interactive discussions, students will delve into biotechnological principles contextualized to plant and soil science. They will practice techniques and real-world applications in agriculture, while gaining a deep understanding of how biotechnology impacts fields such as medicine, agriculture, industrial production and processing, and marine science, using the four colors of biotechnology model: red, green, white, and blue. Whether students are pursuing a career in biotechnology or expanding their knowledge, this course will equip them with skills and insights necessary to enable their contribution in developing a regional bioeconomy.
