Agriculture Plant Science, AS-T

The Associate in Science for Transfer degree in Plant Science provides students with an introductory foundation of plant and soil sciences. It prepares students to transfer to a CSU campus into majors such as Plant Science, Crop Science, and Environmental Horticulture. Potential careers in the field include: Pest Control Advisor (PCA), crop production specialist, farm management, landscape design, quality control manager, county and governmental compliance inspector, sales and marketing of seed and other crop protecting agents. The completion of this degree provides students with preparation for upper-division coursework required within a baccalaureate degree program in plant science from a California State University (CSU).

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate practical application of skills related to management and production of agricultural and horticultural crops, including various methods of plant propagation.
  2. Recognize and describe characteristics of agricultural and horticultural crops, common or native to California, relative to growth and marketability.
  3. Identify and characterize the primary soil types in California agriculture, to effectively conduct sampling, field and lab soil analyses, and data interpretation.
  4. Demonstrate understanding of plant anatomy and processes, including reproduction methods, growth regulation, and nutrient use.
