Elementary Teacher Education, AA-T

The Associate in Arts for Transfer degree in Elementary Teacher Education is designed to provide students a seamless pathway for transfer to a California State University with a major in Liberal Studies. The student will meet introductory content area subject matter requirements for teaching at the elementary school level. Through a broad liberal studies curriculum, students are introduced to elementary school teaching, examine child growth and development, and select courses in the arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences, literature and communication.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successfully completing this program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate best practices in the development and implementation of lesson plans and assessments, which are built on state standards.
  2. Develop a professional teaching portfolio to include papers on classroom management, classroom environment, and classroom procedures based on observations and one-on-one tutoring completed in local elementary classrooms.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to integrate and utilize knowledge from multiple disciplines.
  4. Understand and respond to the diversity of the children they will serve.
