ESL Milestone for Multilingual Speakers: Pathway to Business Certificate of Achievement

The ESL Milestone for Multilingual Speakers: Pathway to Business Certificate of Achievement teaches advanced reading and writing skills at a post-secondary level for English learners combined with introductory business and entrepreneurship skills. Students will use a combination of these skills along their pathways to degrees, certificates, or transfer opportunities. In addition, they will be more prepared to work in multilingual office environments and/or pursue more entrepreneurship opportunities.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

1. Write and edit clear, well-developed essays on academic topics and effectively use English as applied in Business classes as well as in workplace environments. Summarize, paraphrase, and quote readings using proper citation and formatting strategies, as a way to integrate outside sources into business writing.
2. Apply techniques of written communication, sentence structure, word usage, punctuation, spelling, business vocabulary, and business and workplace document formatting.
3. Analyze written communication and compose and organize paragraphs into effective business documents.
4. Participate in in-depth discussions effectively, take clear notes, and give oral presentations in a business environment.
5. Distinguish among primary functions within a business, compare the three major business organizations, and evaluate U.S. and global economic systems.
