ESL Milestone for Multilingual Speakers: Pathway to Electrical Technology Certificate of Achievement

The ESL Milestone for Multilingual Speakers: Pathway to Electrical Technology Certificate of Achievement teaches advanced reading and writing skills at a post-secondary level for English learners combined with introductory electrical technology skills. Students will use a combination of these skills along their pathways to degrees, certificates, or transfer opportunities. In addition, they will be more prepared to succeed in the Electrical Technology certificate/degree programs and to practice electrical technology in the field.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Write and edit clear, well-developed essays on academic topics and effectively use English as applied in Electrical classes. Summarize, paraphrase, and quote reading using proper citation and formatting strategies, as a way to integrate outside sources into electrical workplace writing.
  2. Apply techniques of written communication, sentence structure, word usage, punctuation, spelling, electrical technology vocabulary, and electrical workplace document formatting.
  3. Analyze written communication and compose and organize paragraphs into effective documents.
  4. Participate in in-depth discussions effectively, take clear notes, and give oral presentations relevant to the electrical technology environment.
  5. Write summaries and short essays to demonstrate an understanding of Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) circuits as well as a basic understanding of electrical circuit safety.
