The Associate in Science in Business Administration for Transfer degree provides the student with an introductory foundation of business and prepares a student to transfer to a CSU. The Associate in Science in Business Administration for Transfer program prepares students for a broad range of opportunities in the area of business. The completion of this degree provides preparation for upper-division work for students seeking to transfer and pursue a baccalaureate degree in Business from a California State University (CSU) The program offers students a foundation in business operations and management, accounting, economics, mathematics, and the legal environment of business. The Associate in Science in Business Administration for Transfer is based on the state-wide Transfer Model Curriculum for Business and prepares students for transfer into the CSU system to complete a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration or similar major. After completing the required courses in this program students will graduate with a broad-based understanding of the field of business, its demands, required skill-sets, needed abilities, and career opportunities. Completion Requirements: Completion of 60-semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following: The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or CA State University General Education - Breadth Requirements. A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district. Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT’s) also require that students must earn a “C” (or “P”) or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Apply accounting and legal concepts and principles in making decisions about business operations.
  2. Know how to use economic data sets/formulas in order to interpret and analyze data.
  3. Find probability using the normal distribution.
  4. Analyze application problems and choose appropriate mathematical models to solve the problems.
  5. Students will be informed consumers of economic information as it relates to current and historic events.
  6. Students will analyze and identify effective management styles and techniques.
  7. Demonstrate proficiency in processing the accounting cycle for a business.
  8. Identify and analyze the nature of budgeting and management decisions and apply and evaluate various methods used in making these decisions; including capital expenditure decisions and the time value of money.
  9. The student will demonstrate an understanding of how derivatives are used in real-world applications such as rates of change, related rates, and marginal change on a mutually agreed upon examination.
  10. Distinguish among primary functions within a business, such as human resources, management, marketing, accounting, finance, and production, considering the legal and ethical outcomes.
  11. Students will analyze an application problem and choose an appropriate mathematical model (from those covered in this course) to solve the problem.

Minimum Major Units Required: 27


Complete all courses with a grade of “C” or better.

General Education


Complete one of the following general education patterns:

Students are advised to double-count courses in the major to also satisfy general education when possible. Course subject credit will be awarded in satisfaction of major and lower division general education requirements, but the units will only be counted once in computing the total number of units for the degree.
