The Associate in Science degree in Electron Microscopy - Biological is designed to offer students a broad base in the natural sciences, emphasizing microscopy and laboratory techniques. The Associate in Science degree may be completed in conjunction with the Electron Microscopy - Biological Certificate. Students who complete this degree will be prepared to work as Biological Electron Microscopy Technicians, Histotechnologists, Staff Research Associates, and Structural Biology Lab Technicians.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Understand the applications of electron microscopy to all areas of biology.
- Work safely in any science lab.
- Work cooperatively in groups.
- Prepare biological tissues for both TEM and SEM examination.
- Use both light and electron microscopes to record images of cells.
- Identify the ultrastructure of biological material.
- Use standard lab tools used in electron microscopy.
