The Associate in Science for Transfer degree in Mathematics is designed specifically for the student preparing to transfer to a similar major at California State University (CSU) campuses. The study of mathematics improves the student’s critical thinking and problem solving skills. A degree in mathematics opens doors to careers in many fields including engineering, medicine, actuarial science, research, computer science and education. Coursework includes a minimum of three semesters of calculus and additional courses in college-level mathematics and/or closely related fields.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate appropriate proficiency with the language of mathematics both through their use of vocabulary and notation and through their ability to understand mathematics written and/or spoken by others.
- Demonstrate the necessary foundation in integral and differential calculus to transfer to a four-year institution and achieve a degree in a STEM-related field.
- Analyze a situation, choose mathematical constructs best suited to model the situation, and propose an appropriate solution or conclusion.
