The Real Estate Associate in Science degree is designed to develop a strong base of knowledge and skills that will serve as a foundation for further study and/or pursuit of a career. Students will gain knowledge and skills necessary to serve as a real estate professional, including basic real estate terminology and concepts related to real estate law, sales, finance, property management, real estate appraisal, and related fields. The degree provides the basic background and information needed as a future employer of sales people in real estate, as well to serve in a variety of roles operating in the real estate industry (e.g., developers, government agencies, escrow companies, loan officer, mortgage banker, property manager). Upon successful completion of this degree, including the related Salesperson and Broker certificates, students will be able to: 1. Meet the requirements set by the State of California to qualify to take the Real Estate Salesperson and Broker licensing exams. 2. Prepare the student to successfully pass the State of California Real Estate Salesperson and Broker licensing exams. 3. Define the role, responsibility and ethical conduct of a licensed real estate professional in California. Upon successfully completing all California Department of Real Estate (DRE) requirements, including passing the examination, a license will need to be approved by the DRE. For additional information regarding the California Real Estate Broker and Salesperson licenses, refer to http://www.dre.ca.gov. The license is required of individuals who conduct licensed real estate activities as described by California Real Estate Law. Students are encouraged to continue their real estate training for professional development throughout their careers.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate a strong base of knowledge and skills that will serve as a foundation for further study and/or pursuit of a career in real estate.
- Demonstrate knowledge in Real Estate sales, property management, real estate appraisal, or related fields.
- Explain and complete the forms associated with a real estate transaction.
- Demonstrate knowledge of economic factors affecting real estate transactions and trends.
- Demonstrate knowledge of property management principles and regulations.

Complete all courses with a grade of “C” or better. General Education
Complete one of the following general education patterns: Students are advised to double-count courses in the major to also satisfy general education when possible. Course subject credit will be awarded in satisfaction of major and lower division general education requirements, but the units will only be counted once in computing the total number of units for the degree. Minimum Degree Units Required: 60
