The Automation Technology - Mechatronics Associate in Science degree prepares students for technician and specialist roles in today’s industrial and smart technology environments. The program offers a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum that emphasizes real-world applications of automation systems, industrial robotics, and connected technologies. Students gain practical experience with industrial control systems, FANUC robotics, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) integration, and advanced troubleshooting of complex mechatronic systems. The structured course sequence includes training in electronics, robotics, engineering technology, mechanical systems, programming, network communications, and problem-solving. Graduates are well-equipped to pursue careers as Automation Technicians, Industrial Mechanics, or Smart Systems Technicians in advanced manufacturing and industrial settings.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Operate and program industrial robots.
  2. Create a Ladder Logic Diagram to control a Programmable Logic Controller.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot robotics circuits at 100% accuracy to industry standards.

General Education


Complete one of the following general education patterns:

Students are advised to double-count courses in the major to also satisfy general education when possible. Course subject credit will be awarded in satisfaction of major and lower division general education requirements, but the units will only be counted once in computing the total number of units for the degree.

Complete all courses with a grade of “C” or better.
