Spanish for Medical Professions


The Spanish for Medical Professions Certificate of Achievement prepares students to communicate effectively in Spanish across various medical contexts. The certificate enhances workplace skills by equipping healthcare professionals with essential Spanish language proficiency to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking patients and colleagues. Students develop intermediate skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, while gaining cultural competence tailored to the needs of Spanish-speaking patients. Certificate holders demonstrate the ability to provide linguistically accurate and culturally sensitive care.

 

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Produce short essays on health-related academic topics, demonstrating effective use of Spanish in Health Science coursework and professional healthcare environments.
  2. Apply techniques of Spanish written communication, sentence structure, word usage, punctuation, spelling, medical terminology, and Health Sciences document formatting.
  3. Analyze in Spanish written health-related communication, compose and organize paragraphs into documents.
  4. Participate in in-depth health-related discussions in Spanish effectively, take notes, and give oral presentations.
  5. Demonstrate how to properly use common medical terms in health care practice in Spanish.

Complete all courses with a grade of “C” or better.
