Electron Microscopy - Field Service Technician Basic Training

Upon successful completion of the Electron Microscopy - Field Service Technician Basic Training Certificate of Achievement, the student shall demonstrate knowledge and the skills necessary to complete preventative maintenance and day-to-day upkeep of lower level microscopy-related equipment and systems to validate functionality and proper imaging capabilities. The student will possess the ability to diagnose, locate, service and perform basic preventative maintenance on components of a system and shall be equipped with the knowledge to identify component parts failures and strategies for replacement. Students will be able to pursue careers that align with onsite or field repair of any and all lower level microscopy systems. Job opportunities and employment align directly in this sector, ranging from original equipment manufacturers to an industry that spans all companies that manufacture parts and components related to the field of microscopy. The prospective employment qualifications will be entry-level Field Service Technician.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Understand basic component theory, functionality, and failure types.
- Demonstrate the ability to utilize safety protocols when working in a scientific laboratory.
- Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and trouble shoot microscope instrumentation and related equipment.
- Understand standard operating procedures and how to interpret and perform written technical format writing.
- Understand how to Identify, locate, test and replace components.
