Upon successful completion of the CNC Operator certificate, the student will demonstrate skills, knowledge and training for entry-level positions in a variety of industries including machine shops, metal fabrication shops, tool and die shops, mold shops, industrial maintenance or millwright positions, and apprenticeships in these fields. The student will demonstrate the safe and proper set up and operation of Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machine tools. In addition to machine operation, the student will create and troubleshoot G & M Code programs. The student will demonstrate his or her ability to apply mathematics, problem solving skills, and machining techniques to the automated manufacturing process.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Use computer aided drafting (CAD) programs to generate digital models.
- Safely setup and run computerized machine tools.
- Generate and troubleshoot G&M code programs by hand.
- Apply mathematical concepts to solve machining problems.
- Use computers to generate machine readable code for computerized machine tools.
- Use manufacturer published data to calculate machining feed rates and spindle speeds for automated machine tools.
