LAW 33 Introduction to Public Administration and Policy Units: 3 This course is an interdisciplinary introduction to the study of principles, theories, methods, and challenges in public administration and policy, including policy studies, policy issues, and the processes of policy and program analysis, formation, implementation, and evaluation. This course explores the theoretical rationale for governmental activity, theories of policymaking, the study of policy determinants, and proposals for improved decision making. Examines a diverse set of select policy topics, such as environment, health, education, and social policy, among others. Course concepts include policy theory, the political environment, personnel management, public and social policy, governmental regulations, public relations, strategic management, labor relations, public financial management, accountability, and ethics. Government service as a career is discussed. Since LAW 33 and BUS 33 are cross listed courses, credit may be awarded for either LAW 33 or BUS 33 but not both. (CSU)
