DANCE 32 Dance Cultures Units: 3 This course will survey the development of various world dance forms and vernacular dances in the United States applying theoretical models to analyze dance. This course investigates the relationship of dance in the humanities and social sciences field. It places an emphasis on the role of dance as a carrier of cultural and aesthetics values, a tool for social justice and a witness to history. The impact of political, economic and religious forces shaping dance will also be examined. The course looks at dances originating from Africa, Asia, Native America and Latin America, and their contemporary presence in the United States. (HBCU, UC, CSU)
