Architectural Drafting, AS

Upon successful completion of the Architectural Drafting Associate in Science degree, the student will have acquired skills, knowledge, and training for employment in the field of architecture. Acquired skills will include professional presentation with two and three dimensional graphics, conceptual evaluation and analysis related to basic design theory, and the ability to analyze and implement building codes and develop technical construction drawings and documentation for common architectural problems. In addition, the student will acquire skills leading to entry into other related trades where plan reading and preparation is required. Many of the courses lead to transfer to university level architecture programs.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate skills in manual and computer-driven presentation of two-dimensional and three-dimensional architectural structures, with emphasis on presentation graphics, basic design theory, codes analysis and construction documentation.
  2.  Demonstrate a general understanding of the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction industry.
  3. Demonstrate basic and intermediate skills in manual and computer aided Architectural Drafting techniques in two-dimensional and three-dimensioinal graphic representations.
  4.  Understand basic and intermediate design theories.
  5. Demonstrate a general understanding of the various materials and methods of construction for single-family dwellings and light commerical structures.
  6. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the state building code and analysis.

 

General Education


Complete one of the following general education patterns:

Students are advised to double-count courses in the major to also satisfy general education when possible. Course subject credit will be awarded in satisfaction of major and lower division general education requirements, but the units will only be counted once in computing the total number of units for the degree.

Minimum Major Units Required: 34


Complete all courses with a grade of “C” or better.

Minimum Degree Units Required: 60
