The Associate in Science degree in Horticulture provides students with an introductory foundation of plant production and management skills. It prepares students for careers in landscape management, greenhouse production and propagation, arboriculture, sports field management, and nursery management. Potential careers in the field include: Nursery Technician or Manager, Production or Propagation Technician or Manager, First-Line Supervisor of Landscaping, Lawn Care, and Groundskeeping, Small Business Owner.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Implement fundamental horticultural knowledge to identify and solve practical challenges associated with the Horticulture industry.
  2. Understand and apply fundamental knowledge related to identification, management, and production of horticultural crops.
  3. Understand and apply basic management and business skills critical to the horticulture industry, such as time management, attention to detail, communication, and consistency.
  4. Recognize and perform the technical skills required for employment in the horticulture industry.

General Education


Complete one of the following general education patterns:

Students are advised to double-count courses in the major to also satisfy general education when possible. Course subject credit will be awarded in satisfaction of major and lower division general education requirements, but the units will only be counted once in computing the total number of units for the degree.

Minimum Degree Units Required: 60
