The Associate in Arts in World Languages and Global Studies is a multidisciplinary course of study that encourages global awareness and intercultural communication and understanding through the acquisition of at least one modern language other than English, namely Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Sign Language, and Spanish. The program is designed with the dual intent of developing both linguistic and cultural competence. Affording multiple opportunities for cross-linguistic and cross-cultural comparisons, the program examines and analyzes language, communication, and global affairs. As the world addresses urgent issues of multiculturalism, race, diversity, and social justice, a broad global perspective as promoted by this program is of great value. The elective component of the program allows students to frame their language acquisition within global studies, coursework in culture and society studies with a regional emphasis or international relations. By developing both linguistic proficiency and intercultural competence, the program prepares individuals to function effectively in our increasingly interconnected world, and to build relationships and collaboration across a number of career fields, such as International Business, International Relations, Government, Journalism, Multimedia, Teaching, Non-Profit Organizations, Tourism, Arts, and more.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in at least one language other than English.
- Distinguish the theoretical perspectives of various cultures as they influence the historical, cultural, political, and artistic traditions of communities of color with a particular emphasis on agency and self-affirmation, within the area of global studies.
- Evaluate the problematic impact of cultural ethnocentrism in the world.
- Recognize cultural expressions across disciplines.
